4 Strategies to TEACH students appropriate responses to cultural diversity

October 10, 2017

1. Identify and dispel stereotypes

2. Develop an understanding of students' lives to increase the relevance of lessons and make examples more meaningful

3. Curricula include the contributions and perspectives of the different ethno-cultural groups that compose the society

4. Use photographic images to teach students about perspective

Teaching with diversity and cultural competency in mind implies that teachers recognize that there is injustice in society and that not all students are treated or educated equally in our schools. Teachers should work toward understanding the differences that exist and use the student’ unique characteristics to make learning connections. Demonstrate behaviors, attitudes, policies, and structures that encourage and embrace cross-cultural understanding.
