Read, Write, Rhyme Educational Services

Dr. Crystal LaVoulle, Executive Director of the LaVoulle group, shares her educational and professional journey from reading specialist to professor, author, and education entrepreneur. In an in-dept interview with the Gentlemen of Style co-hosts, Dr. LaVoulle discusses #hiphop scholarship #teachers #principals and #students today. Dr. LaVoulle talks about the origin of her latest book, "Read, Write, Rhyme Institute: Educators, Entertainers, and Entrepreneurs Engaging in Hip-Hop Discourse" and how the conversations in the text offer deep analysis of the public-school system as an institution that struggles to meet the needs of Black and Brown students. Insights provided highlight the possibility of hip-hop Discourse between these individuals who perform hip-hop and scholars, who study and write about hip-hop, as spaces ripe for exploration and critical literacy.

If your scholarship examines hip hop studies, cultural studies, critical race theory, globalization, race politics, art history, ethnomusicology, African American history, consider adding “Read, Write, Rhyme Institute: Educators, Entertainers, and Entrepreneurs Engaging in Hip-Hop Discourse,” to your syllabus. Read, Write, Rhyme Institute offers an alternative lens to viewing hip hop culture within a political, economic and educational context.
